Savannah Theater
Surviving nearly two centuries, with changes of ownership, numerous fires and as much remodeling, the Savannah Theater has the distinction of being the oldest playhouse in continual use in the United States. It opened its doors in 1818 with the comedy Soldier's Daughter. The great names of 18th-century drama played here, and its history has paralleled that of Savannah and the nation. In 18 years the theater will celebrate its 200th anniversary. Battlefield Memorial Park Revisit the battle on October 9, 1779 where soldiers from three different armies clashed for control of Savannah, Georgia's colonial capital.
